Finland aims to take the lead in Europe’s battery production

In the context of an increasingly growing market like the one of batteries, which by 2025 is estimated to reach €250 billion, Europe wants to become the leader in innovation, digitalisation and decarbonisation. Battery production is essential for clean energy transition, therefore research and innovative technologies play a strategic role.

Finland has a great advantage with the largest Li spodumene deposits in Europe, industrial production and infrastructure, variety of battery metals such as Ni and Co, as well as world-class research in metallurgy and metals recycling.

This is where the BATCircle consortium comes to play an important role through the BATtobe project. The consortium of 22 companies, 2 cities, 4 Universities, 2 research organizations and led by Aalto University aims at improving competitiveness of Finland in the business related to the battery metals life cycle. The goal of the project is to create a domestic battery metals ecosystem that follows the principles of the circular economy.

IMA Engineering is proud to be part of this project, and, while at this stage the details are confidential it’s worth mentioning that all companies involved are also financially supporting the open research.


What is IMA Engineering?

IMA Engineering has used on-line sensors for analyzing ore and waste rock in mining for over 25 years. Today IMA on-line sensors are used in various stages of the mining process including on-line analysis of drill cores, drill chips, ore, and waste in loader buckets, ROM ore analysis on conveyor belts and in bulk ore sorting, as well as slurry analysis in concentrators.
