Developing and Testing Sustainable Mining Solutions

IMA Engineering is taking part in the ITERAMS project which is developing sustainable mining solutions to improve efficiency and profitability.

The project aims to improve the recycling of water and the valorization of tailing. Also, it aims at the minimization of the environmental footprint in mines.

Our objective is to make blasting and loading more accurate. Also, it reduces waste rock dilution and ore losses, thus also reducing energy and chemical consumption. Our innovative methods focus on a more accurate separation of acidic and neutral side rock to eliminate acidic leaks into the environment.

ITERAMS will research to reach 100% water circulation in the minerals concentrator. The project’s aim is also to prevent possible harmful substances from getting into the groundwater and the environment. This is possible by developing geopolymer materials to cover tailings areas and mine-side rock piles at mine closure.

For the midterm review, ITERAMS met between the 12th and 14th of February 2019 in Levi, Boliden Kevitsa Mine, and Anglo-American Sakatti.

IMA Engineering works on cutting-edge sustainable research projects and offers new proven solutions to improve mining profitability and efficiency.

Thanks to Boliden Kevitsa Mine and special thanks to Outi, Bianca, and Benjamin, as well as to all those who made this event possible.

This project has received funding from EU H2020 program under agreement no 730480.

What is IMA Engineering?

IMA Engineering has used on-line sensors for analyzing ore and waste rock in mining for over 25 years. Today IMA on-line sensors are used in various stages of the mining process including on-line analysis of drill cores, drill chips, ore, and waste in loader buckets, ROM ore analysis on conveyor belts and in bulk ore sorting, as well as slurry analysis in concentrators.
